Five years ago, Elena, Steph, Grace, and Calvin were elementary schoolers having a playdate. Bored, Elena suggests a game of Bloody Mary, where players look into a mirror and repeat Mary’s name 13 times. Legend says that by doing so, Mary will appear and show you your future: you’ll either see your one true love or a skull to mark your early death. Legend also says that by conjuring Bloody Mary, you bring her into your world.…
Elena looks in the mirror and sees her longtime crush. Grace sees Calvin. Steph sees a girl she’s never met before. And Calvin sees…a skull. They try to laugh it off, forget about it, or at least to never talk about it again.
Flash forward to the present day: the four are no longer friends. Each is haunted, but Elena goes out of her way to avoid the mirror in her house where they played Bloody Mary—because a ghostly image always seems to appear in its reflection. One morning as she passes by, she’s startled by a taunting image, so she breaks the mirror, hoping to end the curse. But later that day, a new, familiar-looking girl arrives at school…and her name is Mary.
