About this Series

Tedd Arnold's mega-bestselling Fly Guy series of early readers spotlights the adventures of a bug-eyed boy named Buzz and his pet fly. The idea got its start in an earlier picture book, Green Wilma, about a girl who turns into a frog and chases a fly through her school. From that point on, says Arnold, he always had in the back of his mind that it might be fun to have a fly as an ongoing book character.

Fly Guy was born a few years later when Arnold was doodling on a road trip with his wife, and a fly kept buzzing against the windshield. So he began to draw it. "It suddenly hit me that the one word a fly can say is 'BUZZ,' and that that was also a boy's name. Once that idea came up, I knew it was too good to pass up."

Since its 2005 debut with Hi! Fly Guy, the series has sold over 8 million copies and spawned a nonfiction Fly Guy Presents series as well. The fun begins when Buzz enters his winged buddy in the Amazing Pet Competition. The judges scoff until they see all the extraordinary tricks this little guy can do. After that, it's one zany adventure after another. And at the heart of it all—whether they're fleeing flyswatters or learning about snakes, bees, or dinosaurs—is an unlikely friendship. They're loyal, curious, and adventurous—and Fly Guy can even say Buzz's name!

About the Author

The author of the ever-popular Fly Guy and Huggly series, Tedd Arnold got his start as a commercial illustrator. His wife, a former kindergarten teacher, encouraged him to write and illustrate children's books, and Arnold's two sons served as inspiration for his earliest characters. Catching Walter jumping on the bed, Arnold told him he'd better stop or the floor might cave in, and that became the inspiration for his first book, No Jumping on the Bed! William starred in the sequel, No More Water in the Tub!

Since then, Tedd Arnold has published over 50 children's books and won numerous awards, including a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor for Hi! Fly Guy! and an Edgar Award for his novel Rat Life.
