About the Author

This acclaimed children's author, who would achieve world renown with his best-loved picture books, began his career as a teacher in Kansas before moving to New York City to develop literature-based reading programs. His first book, published in 1945, was The Little Squeegy Bug: Story of the Firefly, and he would go on to write the acclaimed

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, which was illustrated by his dear friend Eric Carle. He's published more than 300 books, including the irresistible alphabet rhyme Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Before his death in 2004, he was elected into the Reading Hall of Fame by the International Literacy Association.

About the Illustrator

Lois Ehlert developed her signature style of collage as a little girl playing with her seamstress mother's fabric scraps. Using bold shapes and colors, she reveals nature's many wonders in her critically acclaimed picture books. She won the Caldecott Honor in 1990 for Color Zoo, an eye-catching book that teaches children shapes and colors using animal art. Among her most popular books are the acclaimed Growing Vegetable Soup and the best-loved Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. She lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
